My wife and I were out for a walk yesterday evening. Two large mountain lions ran across the road in front of us — maybe a male chasing after a female. Immediately after that, a cat appeared and followed us for a mile or two. Perhaps the cat was aware of the mountain lions and stayed close to us for protection. Then it disappeared.
